Pakistan Must Revive Mediating Role to Resolve Yemen-Saudi Dispute: Quetta Friday Prayer Leader

Hojatoleslam Seyyed Hashem Mousavi calls for dialogue, reconciliation, and adherence to Quranic principles of Islamic brotherhood in addressing regional conflicts

Hawzah News Agency- In his Friday prayer sermons in Quetta, Pakistan, Hojatoleslam Seyyed Hashem Mousavi urged Pakistan to revive its mediating role in the dispute between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the need to reduce tensions and achieve peace in the region.

Citing the Holy Quran's teachings on Islamic brotherhood and reconciliation, he stated that Pakistan must take constructive steps toward facilitating dialogue and compromise between the parties involved.

'Still Not Too Late' for Pakistan to Play Positive Role

The Quetta Friday prayer leader stressed that it is not too late for Pakistan to play a positive role in resolving the conflict. He said the country can contribute to reducing tensions and bringing the parties closer to peaceful solutions by adopting an approach based on reconciliation and dialogue.

He noted that escalating differences and unfair partisanship only make the path to peace more difficult, while responsible mediation and efforts to build understanding can pave the way for resolving disputes.

Reconciliation a Quranic Duty

In his second sermon, Mousavi cited Verse 10 of Surah al-Hujurat—"The believers are but brothers, so make peace between your brothers"—and emphasized the necessity of preserving Islamic brotherhood, strengthening unity among Muslims, and working to resolve differences.

He said the Quranic teaching clarifies the responsibility of Muslims toward disputes and conflicts, showing that instead of escalating tensions, efforts must be made to bring viewpoints closer, establish understanding, and resolve differences.

The cleric added that reconciliation and establishing peace between conflicting parties is a fundamental principle of Islamic ethics, requiring attention to justice, avoidance of unfair bias, and pursuit of peaceful solutions.

Negligence vs. Deliberate Overlooking

In his first sermon, Mousavi addressed the consequences of negligence in human life, warning that a moment of inattention can lead to deprivations and problems that are not easily remedied.

He distinguished between "negligence" (ghaflah), which distances a person from their responsibilities, and "deliberate overlooking" (taghaful), which he described as a conscious and measured behavior aimed at preserving relationships, reducing tensions, and strengthening tolerance.

He emphasized that in human relations, one should not react harshly to every mistake or turn every issue into a cause for disagreement. Rather, in many situations, forgiveness, patience, and deliberate overlooking can prevent the spread of disputes and lead to healthier, more sustainable relationships.

A Constructive Approach for Regional Conflicts

Mousavi concluded by stressing the need to adhere to Quranic teachings in personal, social, and international relations. He noted that just as measured overlooking of others' faults can prevent disputes in daily life, at the social and political level, dialogue, tolerance, justice, and efforts to mend relations are key factors in reducing tensions and resolving conflicts.

He said Islamic teachings call on Muslims to strengthen brotherhood, observe fairness, and strive for peace—principles that can form the basis of a constructive approach to resolving regional disputes, including the Saudi war on Yemen.
